The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are growing
tremendously in the country. However, one of the biggest challenges of SMEs
today remains that is tapping the digital community.
Today, there are 34 million Facebook users, over 10
million Twitter followers and over 44 million Filipino Internet users
(Philippine Star).
These numbers present large opportunities to SMEs
in the country and by learning to penetrate and maximize these digital
communities SMEs can further experience growth.
Professor Cielito Habito, of our top economists and
former NEDA secretary, mentions in his many presentations that one of the key
components of SME Development is technology . Confirming the importance of
digital in growing the SMEs in the country.
In response to this challenge, the 6th Philippine Business and
Entrepreneurs Expo (PBEX) set this July 17 – 19, 2015 at Megatrade Hall SM
Megamall.
PBEX is the definitive event for SMEs looking for business
partners and dealers that will help them expand their business.
In addition, several partner associations will be
holding their events inside PBEX. Some of the associations are Junior
Achievement Philippines Inc. (JAPI), KA Entrep, and Asenso Pinoy.
The associations and other business groups that
will take part in PBEX will discuss and share best practices on how to maximize
the growing digital platforms in relations to growing the business as one of the
topics of interests.
The record shows that there are 945,000 registered
business enterprises in the country in 2012, 99.6 percent are MSMEs.
In the same year, SMEs accounted for almost five
million or roughly 61 percent of the country’s total employment. (Philippine
Star)
In the Asean, SMEs are also considered a key
contributor to economic growth as the sector accounts for 96 percent of all
enterprises, contributing at last 30 percent of the gross domestic product, at
least 50 percent of domestic employment and 19 percent of exports. (Philippine
Star)
This year the Department
of Trade and Industry (DTI) will focus on the SME Agenda on the coming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
which we are hosting this year.
PBEX showcases the following SME Companies:
franchising, dealership, technology, health and beauty, finance, arts and
crafts, retail, and office machines and supplies.
Every year, PBEX draws owners and entrepreneurs
creating a unique business-matching environment. Besides this, the different
business associations that partners and conducts activities with PBEX are a
source of education and networking opportunities.
This progressive environment and opportunities
enable participating SMEs to further widen their base of partners, thus ensuring
the steady growth of their business.
