I like so far what I am hearing from Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Jr,; so far he is sending the right messages to ignite our tourism industry to a new level.
Recently, he said that “Tourism as a business needs momentum and that to make it successful we need to create a momentum”.
Well said and I am hoping that the soundness of the theory can be translated to actions and implementations.
For the beauty of theories and ideas have no value at all if we cannot see the concrete actualizations of such lofty ideas.
On the other hand, in as much as the idea presented about momentum is beautiful my only reservation about it is that it places the ball on the court of the private companies to build momentum alone and forget about the important role the government must play in stimulating our tourism industry.
Again, it remains to be seen. I agree about the momentum thing and that the momentum should be created by the government and the private sector.

Staying physically active is the single most important action we can do to stay fit and independent as we get older. Physical activities are good for our bodies and minds. Also, it help us remain independent and to get the most out of life.
Fall is “unintentionally coming to the ground or some lower level and other than as a consequence of sustaining a violet blow, loss of consciousness, sudden onset of paralysis as in stroke or an epileptic seizure”.
Falls in older people are an increasingly important public health problem. Fortunately there is now evidence to guide fall prevention practice. This will be valuable to medical practitioners, Physiotherapist, occupational therapists, nurses, researchers and all those working in community, hospital and residential aged care settings. This will cover epidemiology, critical appraisal of the roles of exercise, environment, footwear, and medication, evidence-based risk assessment, and targeted and individually tailored falls-prevention strategies.
Falls in older people: risk factors and strategies for prevention is a book that Prof. Catherine Sherrington and her colleagues work out. This book is a guide through the maze of falls management. This bridges the gap between highly specialised journal articles and highly recommended to students and medical practitioner.
Prof. Catherine Sherrington led the development of novel functionally-relevant exercise protocols for older people which have been demonstrated in 5 clinical trials to have greater benefits on balance and functional ability than traditional programs. Her 1997 clinical trial which was the first to show benefits of a home exercise program after hip fracture has been cited 75 times.
To know more about this amazing findings, Professor Sherrington will be at the First Filipino Therapists Conference and Expo, September 24-25, Crowne Plaza, Ortigas Center, Quezon City.

Laughter Yoga will be discussed in the upcoming First
Filipino Therapists Conference and Expo on Sept. 24 to 25 at the Crown Plaza,
Ortigas Center.
Life is too important to be taken
seriously, says Oscar Wilde. We are serious nation with serious people who have
serious health problems, many of which are related to stress. Laughter relieves
stress. Through laughter, we cope with fear and anger-the two emotions that
results in stress.
With this, Laughter Yoga, an
exercise routine, is sweeping the world and is complete well-being workout. It
was brought to the Philippines by ElvieEstavillo in 2000. Since then, the
unique and unconventionally yoga has spread nationwide. Laughter Yoga is
founded in Mumbai, India in 1995 by a physician named Dr.MadanKataria. The
primary reason Dr.Kataria named the technique Laughter Yoga was because he
incorporated Pranayama, the ancient science of yogic breathing, into laughter
exercises. This has a powerful and immediate effect on our physiology and has
been used for more than 4,000 years to influence the body, mind and emotions.
According to yogic philosophy, we are alive because the cosmic energy from the
universe flows into our body through our breath that is the life energy force
or Prana. The essence of life is breathing. Due to stress and negative
emotions, breathing becomes irregular and shallow, thus affecting the flow of
Prana through the body.
In the Philippines, Paolo Trinidad
has founded Laughter Yoga Club Philippines (LYCP) and is a Laughter Yoga
professor.
Laughter Yoga combines unconditional
laughter yogic breathing (Pranayama). Laughter is stimulated as a body exercise
in a group, eye contact and childlike playfulness. It soon turns into a real,
contagious laughter. The concept of laughter yoga is based on the idea that the
body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter.
