Are you looking to have a
fulfilling career? Do you want a job that will allow you to stretch your
abilities and expand your personal growth? If you are saying YES to these,
event management is for you.
Joining an event management
company is a life changing experience. For one, you will be required to work
with different kinds of people. This means your COMMUNICATION SKILLS will be enhanced.
Often times, successful event
management professionals are EXCELLENT
COMMUNICATORS.
Communication is the key to
make any projects or events successful. How to deal effectively with people
involves different ways of communication.
Besides communication, you
will be able to further improve your SOCIAL
SKILLS. Social skill is a precious skill that will enable you to have the
success you desire, most especially in the event management industry.
While you develop these two
skills, you are also developing your NEGOTIATION
SKILLS. If you will master the Art of Negotiation, your success is almost
guaranteed.
The Art of Negotiation makes
a lot of things possible and profitable. If you will learn how to negotiate with
your clients and suppliers you will be able to smoothly navigate your career in
the event management industry.
Another important skill that
you will acquire is SELLING. The
world is made up of selling. Every day you sell, you are not just conscious that
you are doing it.
In the event management
industry, you will be tasked to find clients or sell sponsorships.
According to Daniel Pink,
author of the famous book To Sell is
Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others, he said,
“A few of us are extraverts. A few of us are introverts. But
most of us are ambiverts, sitting near the middle, not the edges, happily
attuned to those around us. In some sense, we are born to sell.”
The beauty of selling is
within your fingertips should you decide to enter the event management
industry. Best of all, unlimited commissions and incentives are also waiting
for you, should you learn and excel in selling your events to potential sponsors
and exhibitors.
There will be a lot of skills
that you will acquire in entering the exciting world of event management, but LEADERSHIP is one of the best skills
that you will be able to develop in entering this exciting world.
LEADERSHIP is an art and a skill that you will be able to have when you give
your heart to the event management industry.
As you move the success
ladder of the event management industry, your leadership skill becomes better.
Imagine being able to
implement different types of events and projects because of your leadership, I
guarantee you that the fulfillment that you will derive from it is immense. In
fact, your ability to create and make things that satisfies others may be one of
the best gifts you can share to the society.
But there maybe one question
that you wanted to know before you make your shift to event management. The
question is does the pay good in the event management industry? The answer is a
resounding YES if you will work hard and become excellent in this field.
The wage may be equal to
other industries, but the commissions and incentives that you will get for
delivering results are way beyond the other industries. You can have an annual
commission of P100, 000.00 at the minimum, but then again, let me emphasize,
this is based on your capacity to perform and achieve the results expected.
In addition, you can travel
to different places because of your work, and experience the different hotels
and venues.
Are you now ready to shift?
I have no doubt that you are
ready to shift, but before you do that, let me remind you that the perks and
other good things about being part of the event management industry will always
entail that you work hard and smart. Before you shift, you must always put it
upon yourself that you will continuously improve and be better.
If you are nodding in
agreement, then by all means jump and experience the magical world of event
management.
P.S.
Exlinkevents is also looking
for event coordinators and event project heads. If you are interested, send

The latest monster game of Stephen
Curry against the Washington Wizards further cemented him as the number one
basketball player in the world.
In this game, he scored his 4th
50 plus point game.
The Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas of
the famous bad boys Detroit Pistons said, “Stephen Curry is good for
basketball”.
He cited that 99% of the people
could identify with Curry. Curry’s skills can be copied through hard work and
dedication. Unlike Michael Jordan, who flies and walks in the air, very hard to
copy, Stephen Curry’s shooting and ball handling skills can be acquired.
And now, you are thinking why on
earth am I talking about Stephen Curry?
Well, event managers can follow the
lead of Chef Curry in becoming the Most Valuable Player in the events
industry.
Stephen Curry always talks about
dedication as one of the secret ingredients to success. He always mentions that
if you dedicate yourself to working hard to master your craft, you can be
successful.
Event Managers are like NBA players;
we can only hit our ceiling if we pour in a lot of hours to practicing our
craft. In doing, we become part of the All Star Team. Our clients become
satisfied with the work we put in.
Believing in Your Abilities
In one of the interviews when asked
if he is the best player in the world, Curry said, “In my mind, yes. That’s how I have confidence
out there that I can play at a high level every night. I don’t get into
debates, arguing with people about why I am versus somebody else. I feel like
anybody who’s at the level I’m trying to be at , if you don’t think that when
you’re on the floor, then you’re doing yourself a disservice.”
His confidence is over the roof,
which is not wrong. Most of the times, event managers and people mistake Self
Confidence as Arrogance. But as Curry said, if you do not believe you are the
best player in world , you are doing a disservice to yourself.
If you ask me, I rather go the Curry
way of believing in my abilities than to degrade what I can do.
Continuous Improvement
Every time he is interviewed after
the game Curry always mentioned about getting better for the next game. Even in
the Time Magazine interview, he mentioned that people could expect him to get
better this year.
Now hold on to this idea, Stephen
Curry is the 2015 Most Valuable Player and in this year his performance was
beyond comparison. A lot of people even get to the point of describing him as an
Alien or a Super Human, and to hear him say that he will get better this year
2016, is a statement that can really make you scratch your head.
How can someone who is the best in
the league still be better? But guess what, he is also running to be the Most
Improved Player in 2016, and also a front-runner way beyond the other NBA
players, in the 2016 MVP race.
All his performance metrics are up
this year!
Event Managers or people can do this
Curry move - continue to get better, always look forward to get better, even if
you are already the best in your field.
If this is our attitude, we not only
make our clients happy, we also change our organization and industry for the
better.
Failing Forward
Stephen Curry is a risk taker because he wants to win big.
He famously said, “If you don’t fall how
are you going to know what getting up is like.”
I have a confession to make, I have projects that lost
money, and clients that are dissatisfied with the results, this all happened in
the early years of my career. And until now, I sometimes make poor and costly
decisions.
But by hindsight, I will never be where I am right now
without those poor decisions that taught me a lot of life lessons.
Event Managers and Event Producers must learn to embrace
failures, and be excited about the bright possibilities that are due for the taking
after the crisis has passed.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how we should roll
against life.
Faith that Moves Mountain
“ I do a
little sign on the court every time I make a shot or a good pass and I pound my
chest and point to the sky – it symbolizes that I have a heart for God. It’s
something that my mom and I came up with in college and I do it every time I
step on the floor as a reminder of who I’m playing for.” – Stephen Curry
Event Managers have a rare
gift of leadership, and a tremendous ability to make impossible things
possible.
I saw a lot of creative event
managers and I admire them. But at the end of the day, we will be reporting to
our creator.
So if we wanted to have a
head start of a superb scorecard, let us always dedicate our work and
masterpieces to our one true God.
Let us not trust in our own
abilities alone, but trust that God will provide the right mix of abilities that
we needed in everything that we do.
Stephen Curry and the Golden
State Warriors are on the right track on becoming back-to-back champions. But
more than this historical feat, we get to appreciate and copy the great
examples of Stephen Curry’s leadership.
