Do you often find yourself rushed for time when completing tasks? Do you find yourself taking work home in order to meet a deadline? How well do you deal with interruptions when you are in the middle of a task?

In today's world, success comes to those who have learned to manage their time well. You too can be a good time manager by following these 20 easy time management tips:

1. Create an activity schedule. It might be a good idea to create a schedule the previous night or the first thing in the morning. You can even use your diary to jot down the list of things to do. This way, you are more likely to be prepared for the day ahead and less likely to be caught unawares by something not on your agenda for the day.

2. Set mini goals for the day. Set a time limit for each of your tasks. For example, finish drafting letters by 9.30am, conclude staff meeting by noon, check and reply to emails by 1pm, and so on. This will not only prevent overstepping the time allotted for each task, but will also turn out to be an effective task management tool.

3. Minimize interruptions. While you cannot totally stop people from dropping by at your desk when you are busy, you can set up alternate times when you can make yourself available for them.

4. Eliminate distractions. Try not to keep any Instant Messaging software running when you are at work. Notifications of new emails arriving are another distraction that should be disabled. You can always return to your emails later when you have completed your tasks.

5. Do not give in to temptation. While we are all prone to checking our Facebook and Twitter accounts regularly, it might be a good idea to close or disable 'quick access' icons and toolbars of social networking websites when you are working.

6. Focus on the task at hand. Some important tasks require single-minded focus. You might be tempted to tackle several tasks together through multitasking, but that may not always be a good example of effective task management. It is better to focus on only one thing at a time, and get it done efficiently.

7. Get organized. Use an organizer that helps you arrange your to-do lists, appointments, notes, reminders and directory of contacts all in one place. This will help you take control not only of your work life, but also of your personal life.

8. Use a calendar to plan. Besides using an organizer, it is also a good idea to use any of the calendar software that also doubles up as an effective scheduler and planner. Worth a mention here is the Google Calendar, which many people sync with their mobile phones. This enables them to access their calendar anywhere at anytime.

9. Mark your deadlines. It is important to be aware of the deadlines of all your tasks. To enable you to remember, try and clearly highlight your deadlines on your calendar or organizer.

10. Aim to finish early. Another effective time management tip is to try and beat your own deadlines. If you aim to complete a task just before deadline time, then you are more likely to be late. So, set your targets in such a way that you finish every task well before its deadline. Similarly, try and be early for your appointments, rather than be on time.

11. Allocate time frames. Effective time management is all about allocating a specific time slot for each task. You will minimize the chances of overrunning the allotted time if you strictly adhere to these time slots.

12. Set an alarm for an earlier time. Set an alarm on your calendar or mobile phone to buzz 10-15 minutes prior to your time of appointment. This is a great way to give you enough time to be better prepared.

13. Place a clock in front of you. Time flies when we are busy and you may not be aware of the passing minutes and hours. It might be a good idea to have a large clock in front of you so that you can keep track of time.

14. Be aware of the time you are spending. Keep track of the time you are spending on a task by using a simple online countdown timer. Since this will help you check your progress every half hour or so, it will prove to be a very practical task management tool.

15. Know when to stop. Every task can be stretched longer than required. Similarly, meetings can go on and on. But you need to know when to put your foot down and set a cut-off time. Otherwise, you will end up using the time that you have allocated for other tasks.

16. Try not to be too exacting. Being a perfectionist might be good in some cases, but when it comes to getting a task done, try not to be too fussy about unimportant details.

17. Delegate. If you have peers and subordinates who can do the same task as well as you, then consider delegating. This will free up a lot of time for you to focus on more important work.

18. Bring order to chaos by prioritization. There are tasks that are important, and then there are those that can be attended to later, or dropped altogether. Among productivity tips, prioritization is one tip that is keenly followed by every successful person. Learn to prioritize your tasks.

19. Group similar tasks together. You can further streamline your work by grouping all similar tasks together. For example, reading letters, drafting replies to those letters and dictating them can be grouped together and completed in one time slot. Similarly, all the phone calls that need to be made can be done at the same time. This way, your thoughts are not all over the place during the day, and each group of tasks is completed at the same time.

20. A breather helps. In between tasks, allow yourself some time as a buffer. Don't rush from one task to the next throughout the day! Give a ten minute gap in between to give you enough time to bring a proper closure to the previous task and prepare yourself mentally to start the next. If you could free up between 30 to 60 minutes of your time each day would that appeal to you?

Companies both large and small the world over need their staff to maximise productivity. So it is interesting to note that a US survey of 10,000 at random respondents showed an average of 90 minutes wasted time per person per working day. Depending on the number of staff this can represent a sizable cost to the business. By introducing effective time management strategies most respondents were able to productively re-channel their time.

I'm going to share with you three Handy Hints. If you are not already practicing them, it's time to do so.

1. TIME LOG Do you feel that your working day is out of control? Is there too much work left undone at the end of your working day? Are you dreaming of greater work/life balance?

Handy Hint: The first step in generating greater control over your competing tasks and priorities is to analyse your current daily pattern of activities. First you create a daily time log and complete it on a daily basis for at least one week. Don't leave anything out, coffee breaks, short phone calls, even the few minutes you might spend checking your shares on the internet. Tedious? Yes, but the effort is well worth it as it will show up patterns of 'wasted time', 'interruptions' and even 'task avoidance'. Once you have identified how you are currently spending your working hours, then you can introduce strategies to increase productivity and efficiency.

2. PRIME TIME Are you aware of your body's mental and physical cycles, and do you know at what time of day you work best? Performance levels fluctuate depending on whether one is alert, focused, energized, or tired. Some people come alive in the mornings, whilst others tend to be far more energetic and focused later in the day.

Handy Hint:First identify your own personal peak effectiveness time as this will enable you to schedule your key activities within this time frame. If you need to schedule an important meeting, or maybe a task where concentration is vital, this approach can be extremely valuable and give you the performance edge you need.

3. MULTITASKING AND STRESS Are you one of these people who thrive on multitasking? Females, more so than males, are good at multitasking and we pride ourselves on our juggling acts! Studies by behavioral psychologists, efficiency experts and information technology researchers, are showing that contrary to common believe, multitasking often decreases work output. What's more, it makes us more prone to mistakes, and increases stress and irritability.

Handy Hint: Multitask if you must, by try and concentrate on maybe 3 tasks maximum, ideally routine tasks that do not require much mental focus and can be carried out easily due to repetition and familiarity. Other time wasters include focusing on tasks that are urgent but not important, constant interruptions, misunderstandings due to miscommunication, copious emails, and more. We will provide more tips to cover these points in future articles.

If it's not broke don't fix it...right? No! One of the best methods of mental health recovery is to maintain an environment prone to mental health and mental illness recovery. Staying mentally healthy is a way of life, not something you do when things start to go wrong. Keep reading for your top 10 tips to staying mentally healthy! 1) Stay Physically Active: the human mind developed in an environment requiring one travels the equivalent of 12 miles per day for sheer survival (and no that doesn't mean jumping in the car and flooring it!). Recent research has proven that increased physical activity can actually create new brain cells (once thought of as a static number), this explains why nearly every mental healthcare consumer at facilities such as MHCD are strongly encouraged to begin an exercise regiment immediately.

2) Stay Socially Active: we are social creatures, thus one's support network, be it family or friends, is of immense importance to one's general well being. It is of course ok to take a few nights to yourself, but don't stay shut in. Go out, keep your social relations strong.

3) Get a Hobby: find something creative outlet that you want to do just for yourself. Depending on what you chose, a hobby can be a great avenue into sports clubs, night classes at a local college, or staying physically active; plus if its something you enjoy it will be much easier to stick with!

4) Be Self-Reflective: you know those few nights a week I said it was ok to just take a night to yourself? Do it! Read a good book, walk your dog, just think things over. Examine where you are in life, where you want to be, and where you've come from. Be honest and complimentary to yourself. You are a brave, amazing person, so act like it :)

5) Play: play is actually tremendously important for staying mentally healthy. Devoting time to just having fun can recharge your battery, revitalize your social networks, and reduce stress/anxiety.

6) Maintain a healthy diet: this goes along with staying active. Stay healthy, both in terms of exercise and in terms of eating. Now don't go crazy here, you don't want to make yourself miserable by being the food-police, just be conscious of what is going into your body. And allow yourself some leg-room to cheat once a week or so!

7) Set goals: when people are feeling depressed, aimless, or like they are just going through the motions, often times its because they are lacking general direction. Set realistic goals for yourself so you are continuously aiming at something, this is a practice known as positive dissonance (you are constantly reaching for a new goal you set, thus you are always striving further and further even if you accomplish a goal along the way). Importantly though, one must not take this too far and find no joy in overcoming a given sub-goal; this will prove to demoralize the individual. You should celebrate your successes! Each and every one of them, and then push yourself to be even better. Once you reach your goal, set another one to get even further! This will constantly drive you, give you reasons to celebrate as you attain goals, and will increase your general level of content and mental health.

8) Balance free time: this is very important! Don't let yourself just lay in front of the TV. That is actually conducive to depressive environments. Relax, watch some TV, read a book, go for a walk, spend time on your hobby. Do it all, not just one of them.

9) Examine your locus of control: in the midst of your self reflections, it is important to examine just where your locus of control is. Are you blaming everyone else for things? Or are you taking on all the fault? Nothing is one sided, remember that. Especially if your depression is focused around relationship woes. Think of what you really did, what others really did, accept that its in the past and that the best thing to do now is learn from it and live on to never make that mistake again!

10) Don't be afraid to seek help: It is a great shame that seeking out mental health professionals in America has become a taboo or secretive endeavor! If you are worried about your mental health, you should be proud of yourself for putting forth an effort to improve yourself. If you are in the general area, I would recommend a recovery-based treatment center such as the Mental Health Center of Denver, or MHCD. The only shame in finding help is not getting help when you can benefit from it!

To win in life, sticking it out to the end is everything. You need to be able to sustain energy levels so you can do what you have set out to do. In a marathon, for example, the runner who finishes the race is declared the winner. Even if you clocked in the fastest time at the outset that would hardly ever matter unless you are able to sustain that energy all the way to the finish line.

There is really no secret to keeping yourself strong enough to last in your daily activities. Whether you intend to see yourself through your weight loss regimen or simply last through the entire workday, there are practical things that you can do to sustain energy levels.

1. Keep hydrated. When your body lacks water, you become sluggish and tired physically and mentally. Your body can't metabolize energy properly when you're thirsty and as a result, you'll feel fatigued. To prevent this from happening, always have a water bottle with you.

2. Stay away from alcohol. If water is a boon in your life, look at alcohol as a bane. When your body does not tolerate alcohol well and when you've taken more than a glass, it acts to depress your nervous system and makes you feel tired. The initial stimulus you feel with this substance will easily get replaced with lethargy, depression and worse, when taken as a way to escape stress and problems, becomes addictive. With alcohol, you're not just going to be dealing with tiredness associated with a hangover but with overall feeling of malaise as well and that will not work towards sustaining your energy levels.

3. Strive for balance. To sustain energy levels, don't drive yourself to the ground by overdoing everything-- especially work and exercise. Don't keep on accepting projects when you know it will adversely affect the time you will have for yourself or your family. Never workout more than your body can sufficiently handle at a time. When your life is dominated by work, when you can't get enough sleep, when you can't even share a decent conversation with your spouse, then you know you're doing it a tad too much.

4. Revitalize yourself with mind-body techniques. Yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi keep you reenergized. Many practitioners are living proof of the ability of these exercises to revitalize and lift depression. Aside from these exercises, you can also get a massage or acupuncture to keep the energy flowing throughout your body. This contributes to increased feelings of wellness.

5. Take in nature. Just staying outdoors can have a revitalizing effect on the body. Whenever you can, take the time to actually smell the flowers and the clean scent of freshly-mowed grass or the invigorating feel of early morning dew. You'll be surprised at how a few breaths alone can sustain energy levels throughout the day. Avoid being cooped in an air conditioned office all day. Take lunch break walks in a nearby park and let the sights, sounds and smell of the outdoors keep you energized.
