Having a business is a
challenge. It is not a walk in the park. But it is also rewarding. To see you
efforts and sleepless nights result into a growing business is a great feeling.
Here are 3 critical areas
that SMEs must monitor to ensure the sustainability of the business, and
maintain the great feeling of running a growing business.
1. Talent Pool
In the age of War for
Talent, you need to ensure that you get the right talent for the job. This is
easier said than done.
Also, you need to monitor
the rising cost of acquiring, training and maintaining the Talent.
You cannot take advantage of
the opportunities that knock on the door of your business if you lack the
Talents to help you in maximizing the opportunities.
On the other hand, if you
have Talents but their cost is higher than what the present opportunities bring
to you, it means you have a losing business.
2. Competition
As the competition becomes
tougher and the barrier to entry in your industry becomes lighter you must
always be nimble and wired to the moves and actions of your competitors.
Think about Nokia and Black
Berry, successful brands that failed to keep in step with their competitions.
Always study the competition
and never rests on your past success.
Cash is king. I was
witnessed to a lot of businesses folding-up despite their strong demand in the
market for one important reason they cannot pay the operation of their business
because they lack Cash.
Cash Flow is the blood that
continuously provides air to your business. Always make sure that your cash
flow is good so that you can grab all the opportunities your industry offers.
You don’t need a deep pocket
to maintain a healthy cash flow, what you need is a balance between your
accounts receivables, accounts payable and cash on hand.
Again, easier said than
done. But who says running a business is easy. It is difficult but fulfilling.
A fulfillment you cannot event equate to money.

tips visit Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs Expo (PBEX) #pbex, July 15-17,
2014 at Megatrade, SM Megamall.

Entrepreneurs are passionate
people. And we don’t want them to be the other way around.
But what if the passion
suddenly disappears or is waning?
If this is your situation,
let me give you my piece of mind on how to train your dragon (your passion).
I associate passion with
dragon because both of them needed fire to be powerful!
Dragon is a mythical animal
and passion is very much the same (for me).
1. Take a
Breather
If you feel bored with the
business that you are running which you started because of your passion to it,
you can stay away from it in a few days or once-a- week.
The distance away from that
business will give you breathing space and a fresh look on that business that
you are passionate about.
I go to the mountains or
read books just to occupy my mind whenever I feel my passion is going down.
Fighting the battle alone
will wear you out. Sometimes those small failures add up and you find yourself
tired or drowning.
Meet-up is a great online
platform where you can find a group to exchange ideas. I attend some meet-up
and I find myself full of vigor after this productive meet-ups.
You may also attend free
seminar from tradeshows. I have an upcoming event on SMEs that is the
Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs Expo (PBEX) slated this July 25-27, 2014
at Megatrade, SM Megamall. You can find a group of entrepreneurs there that you
maybe interested to join.
Don’t get me wrong but this
is not only about technology. What I am saying is making work like a game.
Everybody loves competition. There is an adrenaline rush that goes along with
it and it feels good.
In our office, I recently
divided the people into to groups and we created a sales competition. Of
course, there is a reward for the winning team.
Even if the game is still
ongoing, I see fire in the eyes of the people. As for me, I love working with
people with fire that makes my own fire burn brightly.
These are simple tips on how
to train your dragon. I believe in no time you can see your dragon soaring to
greater heights.
And to fly our dragon high
up in the sky is the right path for all of us.

The 9th Entrepreneurship Educators Association of the Philippines (ENEDA) is a huge hit! The event was held in Davao started today and will end this coming February 27, 2011.
Around 1,000 participants, the bulk coming from Metro Manila, attended the convention.
The event is a great lift in promoting entrepreneurship in the country. But more than the learnings that the convention will provide, the networks generated and cultural education of being inside Davao is very priceless in this kind of proceedings.
A lot of interesting topics are in stored for the four day event and surely the delegates will acquire valuable insights from the presentors.
Indeed, a better and more educated future entrepeneurs will come out in this kind of conventions being conducted all over the Philippines.
