The 6th Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs Expo held last
July 17-19, 2015, at Megatrade Hall 2, SM Megamall brought a lot of lessons
that I am now sharing with all of you:
1. SMEs are
Growing
In the various SME expos
that we have run for 15 years, I am a witness to the SMEs of our country
joining the expo in promoting their products and services. This year, I saw new
companies, all with the potential to grow and dominate their respective industries.
I have no doubt that the SME growth will continue and will benefit our country
further.
2. The expo is
still an Effective Promotion Medium
I am an expo organizer and
you may say that I may be biased in issuing this statement. But let me start by saying
I am challenging the notion of expo effectiveness in relation to the digital
explosion. In doing so, I am in a position to decide whether to organize more
expo or divert my effort into digital promotion.
However, seeing the results
of some of the SMEs joining the event, I am happy to note that face-to-face
engagement still has the magic that people can go to in promoting and growing
their companies.
3. Live
Networking Will Always Be Powerful
I met a lot of new friends
at the conference and expo. I know that those new friends I will be able to
partner in some future projects, if not I gain and expand my network. The same
truth for me is also true for other people that I saw actively networking with
other attendees.
4. Content is
the Key
The conferences are well
attended. The staff and associations that partnered for these conferences
should be credited for ensuring the high turned-out. But I also give credit to
the speakers and their wonderful topics. For me, the topics and speakers are
the main reason that the event is well attended.
I met and talked with some
of the budding entrepreneurs that participated in the expo, after our
conversations I am encouraged. They have the spirits that move mountains. I
guess this affirms the description that entrepreneurs are brave, facing the
risks without blinking an eye. Their belief is so strong that they will
succeed, sometimes to a fault. But I rather be brave than afraid, and these
young entrepreneurs that I have talked with, they are brave and this is what
our country needs.

A 2013 survey by the Philippine Institute for Development
Studies (PIDS) showed that Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) weak economic
performance is due to “poor access to
finance, technology, and skills, as well as information gaps and difficulties
in product quality and marketing. Although there are government institutions or
agencies responsible for the development and technology support of SMEs, the
growth of the sector has not been vigorous enough to propel the economy.”
These challenges are still the same challenges the
Philippine SME are facing, even now that the ASEAN Economic Integration is on
our country.
The 6th
Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs Expo (PBEX) slated this July 17-19,
2015 at Megatrade, SM Megamall is a trade event and a educational forum where
issues of the SMEs will be discussed and answered by invited resource speakers
expert in the ASEAN Integration and SME situation of the country.
The 6th PBEX holds three conferences as its
highlight. The ASEAN SME Business
Conference on July 17 – a forum that will discuss ASEAN Integration and its
impact to SMEs; the Business Readiness
and Disaster Preparedness Summit on July 18 – a timely forum that will
discuss the critical actions to take during business emergencies; and the Travel Business Forum on July 19 – a
forum that will tackle exciting opportunities and situations that ASEAN
Integration presents to the tourism industry of the country.
Other educational activities include: Cash Flow Seminar,
Asenso Pinoy Business Forum and Ka Entrep Summit and Negosyo Power Seminars.
More than 100 companies are participating in the event they
belong to the following categories: Finance, Food, Franchising, Property,
Beauty and Wellness, Transportation and Services.
In a study in 2006, the country’s economy is dominated by
the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) dominated the economy and
accounted for almost 99.6% of the total number of establishments. Despite this
huge number, they only accounted for 61.2% of the country’s total employment
and 35.7% of total value added.
In addition, the study revealed that in spite of present
programs and policies created for SMEs, access to finance has remained one of the
most critical factors affecting the competitiveness of the sector. Many private
banks are still reluctant to lend to SMEs because of lack of credit information
and low appreciation of lending to small businesses. More specific issues on
SME financing include lack of acceptable collateral, slow loan processing,
short repayment period, high interest rates, difficulties in load
restructuring, and lack of start-up funds.
The 6th PBEX is an SME Business Expo that
continuously champions the growth and promotion of SMEs in the country. Since
its inception, it has provided linkages between government agencies and
institutions and participating companies.
For visitors of the event, they are benefiting for the paid
conferences and free seminars as they get to acquire hottest trends in
business. At the same time, the participating companies offer great partnerships
and exposures that further develop the entrepreneurial acumen and interests.
The 6th PBEX is supported and will be attended by
members of the following associations: Philippine Marketing Association, Local
Business Chambers, Chartered Association of Business Administrators, Community
Craft Association of the Philippines, People Management Association of the
Philippines, Association of Development Financing Institution of the Asia
Pacific, Advertising Association of the Philippines and Department of Trade and
Industry.

International, Citibank, China Bank, Azalea Boracay, Azalea Baguio, Beauty and

Are you looking for a
life-changing career? Being an entrepreneur maybe the path that is destined for
you.
Here are three reasons why
it is cool to be an entrepreneur.
1. Freedom
Freedom is one of the benefits
of being an entrepreneur. Freedom to do what you love to do can be the key to
catapult you to success.
If you love what you are
doing that is not work. Sometime this is the only thing that will matter in
order for you to cross the threshold going to success.
2. Creativity
Creativity is one of the
results that freedom provides. Since there is scarcity in your resources in
starting your dream business you are forced to be creative in order to make
your business survive.
Necessity is the mother of
invention and this becomes alive when you as an entrepreneur is pushed to the
wall to be creative.
We see a lot of creative
outputs coming from successful entrepreneurs. Most of them said that these
outputs are borne out of the need to survive.
3. Personal Growth
The different hats an
entrepreneur wears is the catalyst for his fast personal growth.
As an entrepreneur, you need
to know marketing, accounting, sales, human resources management, and a lot
more.
This makes an entrepreneur a
multi-talented individual. The prize he earned for entering the exciting life
of entrepreneurship.
Freedom, Creativity and
Personal Growth are benefits that one gets for choosing to be an entrepreneur.
If you will develop these
three things for being an entrepreneur, no doubt about it entrepreneurship is
one of the coolest careers.
If you want to know more
about how cool entrepreneurship is visit the Philippine Business and Entrepreneurs Expo, July 25-27,2014 at
Megatrade, SM Megamall.
