After three decades, one of Pasig City’s famous landmarks shines again with a new name and renewed facilities.
The Pasig Revolving Tower, then called the Mutya ng Pasig Tower, has opened again last Monday, November 28. Members of various civic and government organizations in the city including the Rotary Club of Mutya ng Pasig are invited to a special tour and dinner by the city council led by Mayor Bobby C. Eusebio, the city’s first lady and former mayor Maribel A. Eusebio, and Vice Mayor Iyo Caruncho Bernardo.
The Tower was built in 1974 during the administration of then Mayor Emiliano Caruncho, which prides itself as a building with a Brutalist architecture (made of solid concrete). The tower’s main feature is its iconic revolving restaurant, but its lack of maintenance during the 1980s led to its closure. It was then during the administration of then Mayor Maribel that a rehabilitation was initiated.
During the dinner, Vice Mayor Bernardo, son of Mayor Caruncho, expressed his gratitude to the forerunners of the tower’s rehabilitation. He also stated that the Revolving Tower is a gift to every Pasigueño.
Aside from the revolving restaurant, the Pasig Revolving Tower will house the Market Administration and Tourism offices, as well as the Museum of Local and Modern Art (MOLMA) and other tenants. Mayor Maribel shared that the revolving restaurant will rotate 15 minutes more from its previous time of one hour thanks to the enhanced mechanisms installed in it.
