Why Events and Meetings Matter

Thursday, May 25, 2017

In this digital age, do we still need physical events? Do we still want Face-to-face events that force us to travel in a different place and survive traffics that block our way before we arrived successfully in the target venue of the events and meetings?

Surely, online meetings, webinars, app based communication are way too comfortable that it can be the best possible alternative to physical events and meetings.

These are just some of the questions and factors that must be answered, and when answered tilts the scale to the advantage of the digital space as a means to meet and create event virtually.

But hold your horses before you conclude that we must pour our efforts to virtual meetings and events. According to Janet Sperstad, CMP  “Meetings and events are the strongest way to influence someone, because 95 percent of communication is nonverbal. So when you get together with people, whether it’s a thousand people or 10, you have a bigger opportunity to influence decision-making and creativity, because bringing people together brings in different perspectives.”

It is one of her findings in her research on meetings and events, and has greater implications on how we should view meetings and events in relations to our business and social lives.

She also quips, “At the end of the day, we are all human.” This means that we will always love to meet and do an event that allows us to be with others face-to-face.

Bottom line, people gathering in one place, sharing stories, shaking warm hands and ending with a wave of hands to say goodbye create meaningful connections, that the digital space cannot duplicate or rival.

And with meaningful connections, meaningful decision-makings are just around the corner.
